Steps Needed for Polished Concrete Maintenance

Many businesses and individuals are taking advantage of what polished concrete has to offer. It is being used for flooring and for counters in homes and businesses. People enjoy the look and feel of the polished concrete surfaces, but one of the biggest advantages of polished concrete is the durability. When the work is done properly, the polished concrete surface can last a long time.

Even though the polished concrete is designed to last a long time, it does not mean that it should be left uncared for once it is installed. An important aspect of the product is learning about polished concrete maintenance. It is not difficult, but it can help insure that the polished concrete is able to maintain its look for a long time.

The key to the maintenance of polished concrete is a polished concrete management plan. With this in place, it is easy to do the steps that are required for polished concrete maintenance. The management plan should include when it will be done, who will be doing it and what will be done at any time. The steps that need to be done include:

  • Dusting and mopping the floor on a regular basis. Depending on the amount of traffic, this may need to be done at least daily if not more. Dusting the floor can be done with a microfiber cloth. When wet mopping the floor, clean water and clean mops are essential. A floor scrubber with a non-abrasive pad can be sued for large areas. A neutral floor cleaner can also be used.
  • Dealing with spills and stains – The faster these are taken care of, the easier they are to deal with. When they are dealt with right away, there is less of a chance of the stains being absorbed into the surface of the polished concrete.
  • Polishing the floor – Over time, the glossy surface of polished concrete can become duller. It is relatively simple to restore the shine using a polishing compound and a buffer. This should be done on a regular basis. The more traffic on the polished concrete surface, the more often this will need to be done.

As long as all of these things are done with the proper tools and chemicals, the polished concrete surface will maintain their looks for a long time. The key to polished concrete management is having the tools ready and putting a plan in place to make sure they are used. When that is done, the rest of the work is easy and everyone will enjoy the polished concrete surfaces.
